Sweetheart Saves a Hero

Francis Cogswell was a Union private in the 6th New Hampshire Regiment. He carried a small photograph of his 'sweetheart' in his breast pocket as many men did. His photograph is credited with saving his life during the war. The women behind each soldier were instrumental in their well-being and success. (1987 Inventory #1838)
