My Story of the War
Mary A. Livermore tells "anecdotes, pathetic incidents, and thrilling reminiscence" in her book about the four years she spent as a nurse in the Union army and a Sanitary Commission Fair organizer. As one of just a few women to rise in leadership within the Sanitary Commission, her narrative stands as an important document of women's history. (Courtesy of Kathy Maher)
